CANPOL
Canadian Politics Echomail Conference
Rules
- * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * -
As the name of the echo suggests, it is devoted to discussion of Canadian
Politics. The echo is open to any BBS in Canada whether or not it has
politics as its main theme. The purpose of the echo is to provide a
nation-wide forum in which we can discuss a "street level" view of the
policies and practices of the various political parties, governments and
their agencies of all levels and other public bodies and how they affect
our lives.
So, that being said and done, here are the rules:
1. This is an ECHOMAIL Conference. It may not be gated into any
alternate technology (such as Internet) which makes it impossible
or impractical to enforce any of these rules.
2. The Moderators are the only persons charged with the smooth operation
of this Conference. The Moderators for the CANPOL Echomail Conference
are Dixon Kenner who can be reached at 1:243/5 and Karl Pollak whose
netmail address is 1:153/965.
There may be assistant moderators appointed from time to time when the
current moderators are unavailable for various reasons.
2a. The Moderators are charged with all matters pertaining to the
administration of the Conference, both technical, and disciplinary.
The Moderators are responsible for ensuring that the Conference
remains on topic and that the interests of those participating are
satisfied. Should any of the Assistant Moderators (when they are
appointed) leave FidoNet for whatever reason, the position shall
immediately be declared vacant and someone may be appointed by
the Moderators to fill the vacancy.
3. This Conference shall be governed by the rules of FidoNet. The
Moderators may remove systems from the Conference who are not
willing to observe these rules. The definition of the FidoNet
term "excessively annoying" is left to the discretion of the
Moderators in adjudicating Conference-related complaints.
3a. There will be no personal attacks on the participants of this
Conference. Flaming and foul language will be dealt with rather
harshly by the Moderators. The SysOps of the participating BBSs
are responsible for the observance of these rules by the users
of their system.
3b. Off topic messages: From time to time, the moderator may declare
certain topic to be "off-topic". Continued discussions of topics
denoted in this fashion WILL NOT CONTINUE. Should some participants
continue the subject, they are liable to be removed from this
conference.
3c. If a Conference participant is found to be "excessively annoying"
by the Moderator, that participant may be removed from the
Conference, or optionally the Moderators may file a complaint
with the appropriate FidoNet Coordinators.
3d. If a SysOp requests the reinstatement into the Conference,
the Moderators should poll the Conference participants, and
if there is no significant dissent (as determined by the Moderators)
within a two week period, the SysOp in question may be reconnected
to the Conference.
3e. Deliberate retransmittal of the Conference to another system
which has been previously removed is considered grounds for
immediate removal from the Conference, with no right of appeal.
3f. Under no circumstances should the failure of the Moderator to
remove a system from the Conference be interpreted as prima facie
evidence that no FidoNet Policy violation has occurred. By the
same token, removal of a node from the Conference should not be
interpreted as evidence that a violation HAS occurred.
4. Pseudonyms are not permitted anywhere in this conference for any
reason. While there may be exceptions to this rule, it is solely
the Moderators' decision on which, if any, pseudonyms are permitted.
Users questioning whether or not a pseudo is valid or not should
NetMail the Moderator, and NOT post the question in the echo.
4a. The participating systems are required to include in their origin
line the name of the BBS, its location and Fido address. The
inclusion of their system's phone number is optional. The use of
taglines is strongly discouraged. Your correspondents are more
interested in where you are calling from, than the would be
humour of your software.
5. This Conference is the property of the Moderators Dixon Kenner (1:243/5)
and Karl Pollak (1:153/965),
It is NOT the collective property of its participants.
6. Just a few technical issues: no funny characters or so-called "rotated
text" are allowed in the Conference. Also, messages entered by you
must have either a valid Origin line which includes your system's
address, or your address should be part of the "From" field in the
message (ex: Dixon Kenner @ 1:243/5). It's hard to avoid public
conflict when we don't know how to reach you by direct netmail.
6a. This Conference may not be gated outside of FidoNet without
specific written permission from the Conference Moderators,
and the Zone Echomail Coordinator of the FidoNet Zone where the
gating would take place. No such arrangement should be made if it
could result in topology problems or distribution of this
Conference to persons with no legitimate interest in the
proceedings.
6b. Systems acting as gateways are expected to observe Gateway Policy
and ensure the smooth two way traffic between Fidonet and the
Alternate Network. Failure to do so will lead to the loss of
gating privileges.
Well, enough rules. Hopefully there's just enough to protect us from
excessive abuse while not otherwise cramping our style. This isn't a
rule, just advice: when reading or entering mail here, try to remember
that we're all in this together, and try to avoid major attacks on
your fellow participants. People pay good money to move this conference
around. Try not to waste anyone's time or money with your posts.
